School Board Candidate Information

Congratulations on your decision to file as a candidate for your local school board! School boards are among the most important elected officials in our communities, our state and our nation. The decisions school boards make often have a greater long-term impact on our communities than those of any other governmental entity.

The Missouri School Boards' Association (MSBA) was established more than 50 years ago to support the needs of school boards. Working on behalf of local school board members, our mission is:

Helping Public Schools Succeed

We realize our mission by making available to school boards in Missouri a number of opportunities for assistance and support. We invite you to explore opportunities in each area on the MSBA website.

As part of our education and training focus under Board Services, we are offering a free video program called “Board Service for Student Learning.” This program is available for viewing at your convenience through the link above and is designed to provide you with vital information on roles and responsibilities of school board members; student achievement issues; campaign reporting requirements; and Missouri laws governing conflicts of interest and campaign finances. Please take advantage of this free program.

We are glad that you’ve chosen to run in your local school board election and wish you the best of luck in your race. We look forward to providing you the tools to become an effective school board member in your district.

If you have any questions regarding the material, please do not hesitate to call me at (800)221-MSBA (6722), extension 376 or e-mail me at ghan@msbanet.org. Thank you for your decision to run for your local board of education.

Sincerely,
